vs Microsoft Teams

OmniTeam vs Microsoft Teams: the honest comparison.

A team chat product chosen deliberately, not as a side-effect of an Office 365 license. EU-owned, no CLOUD Act exposure, no data resident toggle on US infra.

THE HONEST PART

When Microsoft Teams is the right call

Teams is the right call when your organization is genuinely deep in Microsoft 365 — Outlook is the primary email, SharePoint is the document library, Word/Excel co-authoring happens in chat threads, the Office Apps integration is load-bearing in your workflows. The bundling math is real for organizations that paid for the licenses anyway. Teams is also the right call for very large enterprises whose procurement teams are structurally Microsoft-aligned.

WHEN WE’RE THE RIGHT CALL

Why teams move from Microsoft Teams to OmniTeam.

We are the right call when Teams was a side-effect of an Office license, not a deliberate choice. When the EU sovereignty question lands in procurement and "EU region of an American cloud" is no longer an acceptable answer. When your organization wants the chat surface to be operationally European. We are not bundled with anything — and that is the point.

FAQ

What people ask about Microsoft Teams → OmniTeam.

Can we keep using Word, Excel, and Outlook?

Yes — those tools have nothing to do with team chat. We replace the Teams chat surface specifically. Office Apps continue to work as before.

What about Teams meetings?

For launch we integrate with Jitsi, Whereby, Google Meet (yes, despite the irony — meeting tooling is a separate sovereignty question). Native voice/video is a v2 commitment.

What about SharePoint files in Teams chats?

Files migrate to EU-owned storage during the import. Permissions are preserved at the channel level. Deep SharePoint links remain functional in messages.

Will procurement accept this?

Procurement that is genuinely sovereignty-driven prefers us. Procurement that is structurally Microsoft-aligned will resist any move. The conversation is about who picks the chat tool.

What about Teams Connect / external tenants?

Cross-workspace channels are a v2 commitment. For external collaboration with non-{brand} parties, Teams or Slack remain the path of least resistance for now.

Is there a Teams-specific import tool?

We import via Microsoft Graph export (the standard format). Channels, threads, files, members all come over. Meetings recordings and Loop components do not.

How do we handle the org-wide rollout?

Pilot teams first (typically engineering or product), then expand. Teams rollouts take 3-4 weeks vs Slack 1 week — the bundling makes it a procurement conversation, not just a tool change.

What about regulated industries?

Audit log architecture, retention policy, DPA, sub-processor list are all available self-serve at /trust. Most regulated buyers prefer our enforced-at-database audit log to Microsoft’s application-layer audit log.
